Yep, a hundred watt HF station on a bicycle. It turned out to be not as
hard as I thought it would be and I have to wonder why more of us haven’t
done it. Or … maybe there is a VERY good reason why but I just haven’t
figured it out yet.
The first iteration of this
station was a Radio Shack HTX-10, 25 watt ten meter radio and a hamstick
antenna along with a single 8 Amp Hour, sealed lead acid battery (SLA).
Of course, with the sunspot cycle declining and the summer coming you
couldn’t make due with a measly 25 watts and ONE crummy band. So, at the
beginning of the year Santa Ron got me an Icom IC-706 MkII G, a fist full
of Hamstick antennas (antennae?) and a trunkload of SLAs
